Hewlett-Packard ha reso il proprio sistema operativo mobile open source! Parliamo di webOS, sbarcato sul TouchPad che però non ha avuto successo pur piacendo molto come interfaccia e funzionalità. Dopo questo flop si pensò alla vendita dell’OS con un possibile acquisto da parte di HTC o Samsung; niente di questo è però successo. Ora invece il progetto è diventato libero per permettere uno sviluppo comune e far si che l’OS non muoia. Questo è quanto scritto sul sito HP:
HP will engage the open source community to help define the charter of the open source project under a set of operating principles:
-The goal of the project is to accelerate the open development of the webOS platform
-HP will be an active participant and investor in the project
-Good, transparent and inclusive governance to avoid fragmentation
-Software will be provided as a pure open source project
Ovvero l’obiettivo del progetto è quello di accelerare lo sviluppo aperto della piattaforma webOS ed HP non si metterà da parte ma sarà partecipante attivo nel contribuire a realizzare questo progetto, si impegnerà nell’evitare un’elevata frammentazione e il software verrà fornito come un progetto open source puro. Vedremo se questo OS riuscirà a ad entrare realmente nel mondo degli OS ostacolando quelli già esistenti.
